Ulysses by James Joyce is a modernist novel set in Dublin, chronicling a day in the life of Leopold Bloom, an advertising canvasser, as he navigates the city's streets. The narrative parallels Homer’s epic, the Odyssey, through its diverse style and stream-of-consciousness technique, while exploring themes of identity, life, and the human condition. Each chapter presents a different narrative style, creating a rich tapestry of language and thought.

Ulysses is celebrated for revolutionising the novel by delving into the ordinary and highlighting the extraordinariness of everyday life through its characters' inner thoughts. It's praised for its innovative use of language and is often compared to literary masterpieces like The Odyssey, Divine Comedy, and Hamlet, being regarded as their equal. The novel offers a vivid tapestry of everyday experiences and challenges conventional fiction, sparking debate over its genius and complexity.
