The Time Machine tells the tale of the Time Traveller who uses his 'Time Machine' to travel to the future where he meets the Eloi and the Morlocks, strange descendants of humanity. Considered by many to be one of the finest stories published in English, Wells coined the term 'Time Travel' in the book, and the story has inspired countless other works of time travel. The book also presents us with an early example of the 'Dying Earth' subgenre in science fiction.
The story reflects many of Wells's own political views and explores contemporary theories concerning social degeneration and stagnation.
