Glazes Uncovered

Glazes are an essential part of ceramics. Yet, many ceramicists don't know how to get started. The range of recipes, raw materials, colouring oxides, and pigments is overwhelming. Whether you use ready-made or homemade glazes, you want to know what you're doing.

Glazes Uncovered contains stoneware recipes and hundreds of colourful glaze tests, and above all, knowledge conveyed in a clear and structured way. You'll learn about raw materials and their risks and receive practical information on how to test glazes. It clearly explains how to optimise glazes for ease of use, ensuring good, consistent results.

The book isn't just for beginners. Topics such as heat work, glaze chemistry, and designing your own glazes are also covered. Finally, there's an extensive section on glaze and clay problems and possible solutions.

Author: Sofie Goethals is the woman behind SOGO ceramics and has been passionate about pottery since 2016. What began as an impulsive course has grown into a full-time job. She makes custom-made tableware and teaches workshops on throwing and glaze chemistry.
