The ultimate guide to starting a career in costume with inside advice from professionals on the other side of the hiring process.
Whether your ambition is to work in design, making, styling, illustration, textile arts or supervision, Get Into Costume will help you bridge the gap from education into that vital first job in the industry and become a sought-after member of the costume team.
You'll learn the essential 'tricks of the trade' from some of the most influential costume professionals working today, including Sandy Powell OBE (Shakespeare in Love; Mary Poppins Returns; The Favourite), Jenny Beavan OBE, RDI (The Choral; Cruella; Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Zaldy Goco (RuPaulβs Drag Race; Cirque du Soleil; The Little Mermaid) and Tahra Zafar (Paddington The Musical; Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens).
There's also first-hand advice on collaborating with directors, producers and performers to help bring their vision to life and tell the story through the language of costumes and clothes. Youβll also learn about breaking down a script to establish not just what a character should wear but how and why they wear it.
With the collective insight of costume designer Vin Burnham and her fellow international costume professionals, you'll be armed and ready to enter the industry with a full understanding of how things work in practice, the many career paths available to you β and what it takes to succeed.
