Flora of Australia Volume 26 describes three families of plants: Meliaceae, Rutaceae, and Zygophyllaceae, encompassing 61 genera and 588 species.
Meliaceae is primarily a tropical family that includes the well-known Toona ciliata, or Red Cedar, as well as Melia azedarach, White Cedar, which is widely planted as an ornamental and shade tree.
The largest family, Rutaceae, boasts 43 genera and 486 species within Australia. Some members of this family are rainforest plants, but the majority are sclerophyllous shrubs found in temperate regions. The largest genus, Boronia, contains 148 species. This family also features the economically significant citrus group, which includes certain endemic species utilised in the bush food industry.
Zygophyllaceae consists of herbs or subshrubs that are predominantly found in inland areas of Australia. Some species are very widespread; a few are declared noxious weeds, while others are reputedly poisonous to livestock.
