With Serena joining the team this week, and knowing what a reader she is, we asked her to write us a blog about the books she’s been reading recently, and she definitely delivered!
Read on to find out what Serena read last month and what she thought of them.
I’ve been in a serious reading slump since the start of the year.
And yet, I kept buying new books. My TBR list continued to grow. (You would all be disappointed with the amount of unread books I have).
So, for the month of August, I decided to set myself a very simple goal: Just read.
No complicated reading challenges. No pressure to finish a certain number of books. Just. Read.
What better way to get myself out of a reading slump than to finally start a series that I’ve been putting off for years?
With the new ACOTAR books being released shortly (super excited btw!) I knew it was finally time to pick up Throne of Glass.
Now, I’ll admit something, I have owned the entire Throne of Glass box set for a few years yet I couldn’t bring myself to start the series. In those years, several of my friends have borrowed these books, and one friend even took them with her on a trip to Europe!
The more my friend told me I needed to read this series, the more I seemed to put it off. Why? I’m an Aries lol
I can confirm that I was indeed mad at myself for not starting them sooner (I have already apologised to my friend for not listening to her hehehe) .
My inner thoughts while reading:
🔹Throne of Glass: I would not survive the assassins game lmao
🔹Crown of Midnight: oh… oh no
🔹Heir of Fire: Hi Rowannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
🔹Queen of Shadows: I’m very stressed omg
🔹Currently Reading: Empire of Storms!
Reading for Comfort
While I was enjoying finally getting back into reading new books, I found myself craving something comforting. Something familiar. Something I already knew I loved and, most importantly, something where I knew exactly what I was getting myself into.
After spending so much time trying to get myself out of my reading slump, I realised that maybe I didn’t always need to be reading something new. Sometimes, a good old comfort read is exactly what you need to remind yourself why you love reading in the first place.
